Sandra Bland, the black activist who was found hanged inside her Texas jail cell after she was arrested during a simple traffic stop, is reported to have had a significant amount of marijuana in her system when she died, according to the district attorney.

Bland was pulled over July 10 for failing to signal a lane change. In police dashcam video, a frustrated Bland can be heard refusing the officers commands. She is asked to exit her vehicle. As the exchange intensified, Bland was removed from her vehicle as she cursed and taunted the officer. Bland begins to cry after allegedly being slammed to the ground. She can be heard saying she hit so hard, she could no longer hear. Bland's arrest video has become the latest exhibit in the Black Lives Matter case of how black citizens are treated by police officers.

Just days after her arrest, Bland was found hanging in her cell with a plastic bag tied around her neck in an apparent suicide. The family denies that Bland would commit suicide and critics claim foul play could be involved. Reuters states that officials are looking closely at a murder angle in this case. However, according to documents released by the jail Thursday, Bland answered "yes" to having attempted suicide within the last year after losing a baby, but said "no" to feeling suicidal when booked. The autopsy also revealed 30 marks on her wrist that had been healing for up to a month.

The district attorney is saying that the autopsy found that Bland had "smoked or possibly swallowed a large amount of marijuana while in custody." Pending further investigation, officials are ruling Bland's death a suicide.
