An interesting footnote can be found in an NBC News education piece entitled "Meet America's Most Hardcore Anti-Common Core Moms" -- it says a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation made it possible. (See below)
While parents across the country are scratching their heads as their children bring home ever more confusing Common Core homework, Bill Gates has been making the rounds calling the new standards a "big win" for education. In an appearance on ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos earlier this year, Gates defended Common Core, assuring that it was "not a federal takeover" of education.
But apparently Gates has been funding news outlets to get the word out that Common Core is where it's at. As Twitchy points out, "This is the first we’ve heard of a grant to subsidize a major news outlet’s Common Core coverage." Their follow-up questions are just as incisive:
How long, we wonder, has this cozy little arrangement been going on? Have other MSM news outlets accepted grants from the Gates Foundation?
