Hillary Clinton is running an anything-but-open campaign when it comes to the media. The presidential hopeful that once used a rope to hold reporters back has not taken a question from the traveling press in 76 days.
CNN's Dan Merica, currently embeded with the Clinton campaign, revealed the news on Twitter:
For this counting (@amychozick): It has been 76 days since Hillary Clinton held a press conference or gaggled with her traveling press.— Dan Merica (@danmericaCNN) February 18, 2016
The claim was backed up with further facts by ABC's Liz Kreutz moments later.
Fact Check: True. (On the night of Friday 12/4, in Fort Dodge, IA, she took 5 questions) https://t.co/10Ppi6ebCW— Liz Kreutz (@ABCLiz) February 18, 2016
The Clinton campaign's defense over her press avoidance has been the number of questions she answers at townhall events. However, townhalls are tightly controlled events with most questions coming from supporters rather than media outlets that might ask skeptical questions.
