Chuck Todd: If Palin, Huckabee Run for POTUS, It's Just for Money

"I think it would be for more financial reasons. To get back into the spotlight. Get the speaking fees back up."

Part of the discussion on Thursday's Morning Joe Program centered on the 2016 presidential race. Bill Kristol, editor of The Weekly Standard, named the nine people he thought would be vying for the GOP presidential nomination, two of whom were former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Todd agreed the two would be running but felt they would be running for more cynical reasons.

By the way, one point on Sarah Palin. I have always believed she's going to run, too, but for much more cynical reasons. I think it would be for more financial reasons. To get back into the spotlight. Get the speaking fees back up. You know, there's some question in my mind about Huckabee’s motivation, how much of that is about -- you know, there's a lot of people who run for president now for their careers.

Kristol pushed back, arguing Todd was being a bit hypocritical:

Really? Can't we give these people the benefit of the doubt here? Some establishment type runs, everyone says take seriously, Jon Huntsman running, wants to serve the country. You have him on 452 times on "Morning Joe" and Chuck says Jon Huntsman could do it. He's a governor and ambassador to China. Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee, those guys just want to make money.
