In an exclusive interview with VICE News published Thursday, ISIS Terrorist Farah Shirdon vowed that the terrorist organization will “make some attacks in New York soon.”
Shirdon, also known as Abu Usamah Somali, is a Canadian citizen who defected to join the Islamic State in Syria. He is featured in a recently released ISIS propaganda video in which he burns his passport and tells the U.S. and Canada, "We are coming and we will destroy you." He was formerly believed to have been killed in combat in August.
In the interview, conducted Sep 23 via video conference and posted by VICE Thursday, Shirdon told VICE's Shane Smith that "no one" recruited him to fight, that he simply read the news and the Koran and decided to go. He also called intelligence officials "imbeciles" for allowing him to go free:
"I can't believe how someone that has extremist terrorist ideologies was sitting in front of you and you didn't capture them. The next time they saw me, they saw me ripping up my passport."
Shirdon estimated that "upwards of 10 to 15,000" foreign fighters were now fighting on behalf of ISIS.
When Smith asked Shirdon who their biggest enemies are, he responded, "The world." Shirdon then said that terrorist attacks are coming “soon” to America:
“[We] will make some attacks in New York soon. A lot of brothers there are mobilizing right now. … Mobilizing for a brilliant attack, my friend.”
Shirdon added later that there are “thousands and thousands” in the West prepared “right now” to carry out these attacks.
When asked why they are waging war, Shirdon said they were fighting oppression and wanted to be free to practice Sharia.
Shirdon also gave a message personally directed to President Obama:
“I hope Barack Obama listens to this message. I swear you infidel, I swear to almighty Allah, we will fight you until the end.”
He added later that one of the goals of the group is to fly the Islamic flag over the White House.
Shirdon also directed threats toward Israel, saying that the Islamic State would "maybe" end its terror campaign if Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is “crucified for his war crimes.”
