ESPN’s central mission of bringing sporting news and events to the American public has been undermined by its political leftism, ranging from its advocacy on behalf of gun control to its worship of Barack Obama to its coverage of same-sex marriage.
But all of that paled in comparison to the words of regular guest commentator Kevin Blackistone, who appeared on ESPN’s Around the Horn to suggest that “The Star-Spangled Banner” was in fact a “war anthem” that should not be played before sporting events. “When you have military flyovers and the military symbolism that goes on in sports, I think you’ve got a problem,” Blackistone said.
ESPN has a history of apologizing for conservative commentators. As we launch this petition on Veterans Day, it is appropriate for ESPN to apologize for the comments of Blackistone and hold him accountable for his words.
