This Is What Got An American Student 15 Years Hard Labor In North Korea (VIDEO)

Outrageous. Them, not him.

North Korea released the above security footage late Thursday night east coast time showing the alleged "crime" of Otto Warmbier, for which he was sentenced this week to 15 years of hard labor.

Mashable reports that the propaganda poster he pulled from the wall was located in a staff only area of the hotel, a fact already in evidence in his show trial.

According to reports, the banner in the hotel says "Let's arm ourselves strongly with Kim Jong-il patriotism", a phrase that was used to rally North Koreans after the death of the late leader.

North Korea claims the footage is from New Year's Day this year. A fellow traveller on Warmbier's flight had told the Independent that the members of Warmbier's tour group were up till the wee hours of the morning drinking vodka on the day, before a morning flight.

The 21-year-old University of Virginia student was stopped at the airport and taken away by guards.

If you were expecting the video to show more, or the statement released to tell more, be disappointed. This is it. This is the "crime" for which this 21-year old UVA student is going to pay with a significant chunk of his life.

It's the kind of dictatorial action certain candidates for president might refer to as "strong," but which the majority of the human race calls despicable. It is also an act of aggression against the United States. This harshest of sentences was handed out because the animal in charge over there wants to tell us we can't do anything about it. You know, because he's "strong."

This is an ongoing tragedy and in every way this young man could reasonably be called a hostage. The State Department and the administration should take steps for his release.
