Voice of America Refuses to Call Orlando Massacre Terrorism

"Government-funded media are steering their ships in an ignorant direction.”

According to the BBG Watch, a report on the New York LGBT Pride March on Sunday, June 26, by the Voice of America (VOA) failed to call the Orlando shooting an act of Islamist or any other type of terrorism, did not mention the murderer’s declared oath of loyalty to ISIS, nor even once used his name, Omar Mateen.

The report from the U.S. taxpayer-funded VOA, charged with media outreach abroad for the United States, instead calls the Orlando terrorist act in which 49 people died merely a “mass shooting.” There is no reference in the VOA report to ISIS beheading LGBT individuals or throwing them to their deaths from rooftops, or to their persecution, imprisonment and execution in Saudi Arabia, Iran, and some other Muslim countries.

This clearly feels like a continuation of the Obama Administration’s refusal to discuss radical Islam – and here it is in taxpayer-funded government media outlets. Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said in February of this year that the BBG is a broken agency and is “losing the information war to ISIS and Putin.”

Intelligence analyst and academic David Firester notes that this is a continuation of political correctness, and that “tere is no cure for stupid, while ignorance is easily treated through education, yet government-funded media are steering their ships in an ignorant direction.”
