University of Alabama Demands to be Removed from American Studies Association Membership List

Hasn’t been a member in over three years, ASA still lists it erroneously

The American Studies Association announced a boycott against Israel several weeks ago, when a majority of its members voted in favor of the controversial effort.

Truth Revolt contacted the Secretary for the University of Alabama system to find out if its universities agreed with the boycott. After checking with various departments, Secretary Michael Bowles reported that not only was the University of Alabama listed erroneously in the directory, but that in light of the ASA’s boycott, the University’s American Studies department chair was contacting the ASA and demanding to stop being listed.

The University of Alabama hasn't paid a membership to ASA in over three years, Bowles said. He also commented that the University has made major efforts to be a welcoming and desirable academic home for Jewish students, so if it has been an ASA member, it would have ended its affiliation in light of the boycott.
