The British government is considering plans to transfer £400 million to Tehran in hope of securing the release of a UK national from an Iranian jail. British-Iranian Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe (pictured above) was jailed by Iran last year after being accused of plotting against the regime while on holiday visiting her family.
Theresa May's government “could be blackmailed into giving £400 million to Iran as the foreign power continues to threaten to extend the jail sentence of a wrongly-imprisoned UK national,” British newspaper Daily Express wrote.
Iran sees the amount as frozen payments that were once made by the Shah of Iran as part of an arms deal with the UK. The Shah monarchy was toppled in 1979 by Shia Islamic radicals, and successor regime cancelled the orders. Emboldened by tens of billions worth of frozen assets released by the Obama administration, the Iranian regime wants the UK to do the same.
The UK newspaper Telegraph covered the story:
Britain is preparing plans to transfer over £400 million to Iran to secure "goodwill", the Telegraph understands, as the Foreign Secretary vowed to do "everything" he can to release Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe.
Officials have sought legal advice regarding US and United Nations sanctions which have so far prevented them from handing over the money, the result of a controversial 1970s arms deal, amid claims the British mother is being held as "collateral".
Considering Iran’s involvement in sponsoring international terrorism, any money handed by the UK government to the regime will directly go into financing Jihad against the West. Tehran continues to finance, train and arms Islamist terror groups like Hezbollah and Hamas.
Taking hostages for ransom has a long tradition in Islamic theology that goes back to the founder of the religion himself. The fact that Khomeini-led Islamic regime – as its first official act – took US diplomats as hostages and used them as bargaining chips, shouldn’t come as surprise to anyone. In 1979, Khomeini’s thugs was merely taking a leaf out of the 1400-year-old Jihad handbook and so have Hamas, Hezbollah and Islamic State in subsequent years.
