In response to the forced resignation of Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich for his support of traditional marriage, TruthRevolt is blocking Mozilla Firefox from accessing its site.
Thursday, Mozilla’s newly appointed CEO Brendan Eich was forced to resign due to increasing pressure from within the company and some vocal organizations on the left. In 2008 Eich donated $1,000 to support California’s Proposition 8, a pro-traditional marriage initiative supported by 52% of the state that banned gay marriage.
The pressure to remove Eich was helped by the dating website OKCupid, which blocked Mozilla users from accessing the site, directing them to the following statement:
Hello, there, Mozilla Firefox user. Pardon this interruption of your OKCupid experience. Mozilla’s new CEO, Brendan Eich, is an opponent of equal rights for gay couples. We would therefore prefer that our users not use Mozilla software to access OKCupid…
If individuals like Mr. Eich had their way, then roughly 8% of the relationships we’ve worked so hard to bring about would be illegal…Those who seek to deny love and instead enforce misery, shame, and frustration are our enemies, and we wish them nothing but failure.
Though neither Mozilla or Eich have a record of discriminating against homosexuals and Eich has helped develop some of the internet's most important technologies, the pressure from both within the company and without eventually forced Eich to resign.
In response to Mozilla’s discrimination against those holding conservative values, TruthRevolt has countered, imposing its own Firefox ban and launching a Facebook page and a petition urging Americans to stop using Mozilla. Editor-in-Chief Shapiro explained the TruthRevolt’s actions to Breitbart News:
The hypocrites who seek to bully and destroy the lives of those with whom they disagree must be held to their own standards of conduct. Our organization seeks to create mutually assured destruction: if the left is going to bully conservatives into silence, we will punch back twice as hard. The minute leftists recognize free speech principles apply to everyone, not just selectively to those on the left, we will be happy to cease using leftist tactics. Until then, civility is a waste of breath.
Andrew Breitbart’s mission was more voices, not less. If the right sits idly by while the left bludgeons conservatives into silence, we will get precisely the opposite. Mutually assured destruction is the name of the game. There is only one thing worse than using leftist tactics: watching the left do it and win while we decry their poor sportsmanship. We hope other conservative websites will join our cause.
TruthRevolt is now blocking the use of Mozilla Firefox. Its redirect announcement, an answer to OKCupid’s, reads:
Pardon this interruption of your TruthRevolt experience. Mozilla recently forced its CEO, Brendan Eich, to resign over his personal support for traditional marriage. The firing followed a vicious smear campaign against Eich by dating website OKCupid, in which OKCupid blocked Mozilla users from visiting their website.
We would therefore prefer that our users not use Mozilla software to access TruthRevolt, given Mozilla’s crackdown on political and religious positions held by millions of Americans.
To sign our petition vowing to uninstall or cease using Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla users can still click here.
Going forward we urge you to consider a different web browser for accessing TruthRevolt.org.
