Trump Donates First Presidential Paycheck to Antietam National Battlefield

Other donors also chipped in, to really make a difference in the historic and sacred place.

You know how rich liberals always say that we ought to pay more money in taxes, but they never voluntarily give up one red cent? Well, they should check out what Donald Trump is doing with his own Presidential salary.

He's taking the first few months of salary and donating it to the Antietam National Battlefield, located in western Maryland. According to the national park service's website, "23,000 soldiers were killed, wounded or missing after twelve hours of savage combat on September 17, 1862. The Battle of Antietam ended the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia's first invasion into the North and led to Abraham Lincoln's issuance of the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation." It is known as the bloodiest day of the Civil War.

According to the Washington Times, however, Trump's donation was matched by anonymous donors who brought the donation amount even higher. The money will be used to restore a house on the battlefield and replace fencing (hey, he always said he'd build a fence!). Here's more from the Times:

“As both the Secretary of the Interior and a military veteran, I’m deeply honored and humbled to deliver the donation to Antietam National Battlefield on behalf of President Trump,” Mr. Zinke said. “The president’s donation will allow generations of Americans to learn about our history and heritage on this sacred site.”

Mr. Trump promised to forgo his salary as president, saying he would instead donate it to the federal government. Wednesday’s announcement marks the first installment of those donations.

This is a great way to use the money, and it's refreshing to see a politician putting his money where his mouth is.
