"I am willing to show Asian community I care by introducing the Ching-Chong Ding-Dong Foundation for Sensitivity to Orientals or Whatever,—" may be one joke too many for Stephen Colbert.
He told that joke on Wednesday's Colbert Report to satirize Washington Redskins' owner Dan Snyder's launch of a charity for Native Americans in light of controversy over the team name. When @ColbertReport tweeted the joke without context on Thursday many Twitter users saw the joke as racist, and launched a #CancelColbert campaign that quickly became a trending topic. By Friday morning it was the number two topic on Twitter.
The tweet has since been removed from the @ColbertReport account, which is managed by Comedy Central not Colbert himself, which led Colbert to issue this tweet on his personal account.
The @ColbertReport account also disassociated itself from Colbert and the program.
