After it was learned that the shooting suspect who targeted Republicans in Virginia was an ardent Bernie Sanders supporter, the Vermont senator addressed the issue on the Senate floor Wednesday.
“I have just been informed that the alleged shooter at the Republican baseball practice this morning is someone who apparently volunteered on my presidential campaign,” Sanders said.
“I am sickened by this despicable act. And let me be as clear as I can be,” he added. “Violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society and I condemn this action in the strongest possible terms.”
The senator went on to state that “real change” comes through “non-violent action” and any action otherwise runs counter to American values.
