On Thursday, Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, Founder and President of BOND (Brotherhood Organization of A New Destiny), voiced his disapproval of A&E's decision to suspend Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson for calling homosexual activity "sinful" during an interview with GQ.
Rev. Peterson issued the following statement to PR Newswire:
The decision by A&E to cave in to pressure from radical homosexual activist groups and suspend Phil Robertson is outrageous! Robertson expressed his personal views about morality, faith, and traditional families. He didn't make the statements on the show. He did not condemn or attack gays, nor did he single them out. In fact, Robertson talked about how his Christian faith instructs him not to judge or disrespect others who don’t agree with his beliefs.
This is an attack on the First Amendment and freedom of speech and religion. GLADD and other homosexual groups demand tolerance and inclusion; yet, they are the most intolerant people around. These groups gave Alec Baldwin a pass for repeatedly using a gay slur, but they have no tolerance for people who express their religious beliefs. This is hypocrisy!
A&E should reinstate Phil Robertson immediately or they will face a major backlash from the viewers. Duck Dynasty and Phil Robertson appeal to Americans of all races who love the outdoors and believe in traditional American values. The audience is not just white--there are plenty of blacks, Hispanics and others who relate to Phil and the family.
Rev. Peterson also hosts “The Jesse Lee Peterson Radio Show” heard M-F, 6-9 a.m. PT / 9-12 Noon ET. His book SCAM: How the Black Leadership Exploits Black America is now available as an E-Book.
