Refugee Alert: Measles Outbreak in Minnesota Continues to Spread

This is what open borders gets you.

Breitbart is reporting on an outbreak of measles in Minnesota’s Somali community that is starting to impact other areas of the state. Authorities believe the dormant virus was brought into the community by a traveler from a foreign country.

So far, the number of cases has grown to 32 but only 28 of the cases are Somali Minnesotan, stated the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH).

Breitbart states:

The geographic reach of the outbreak has now extended from Hennepin County, part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area—where it originated and where 30 of the cases have now been confirmed—to Stearns County, 65 miles northwest of Minneapolis-St. Paul, where one case was confirmed early last week, and now to Ramsey County, were onw case was confirmed on Friday. “31 of the cases are confirmed to be unvaccinated and 1 of the cases had 1 MMR,” MDH said late Friday.

“The cases are children ages 0 through 5 years,” MDH added.

It is noted that the local Somali population, about 70,000 strong, fears vaccines as parents became weary over “what seemed to be a cluster of autism cases among Somali students in the Minneapolis schools,” the Star Tribune reported. Because of that, parents are reluctant to have their children vaccinate and that has contributed to the spread.

That reluctance has also caused other public health safety issues as well, according to Breitbart:

“On the public health front, Somali refugees in Minnesota have been identified as responsible for 22 percent (161 out of 732) of the cases of active tuberculosis (TB) diagnosed between 2010 and 2014, despite accounting for about one percent of the state’s population,” Breitbart News reported, “Recently, female genital mutilation (FGM) within the American Somali community has come to the forefront as a significant problem as well. Earlier this month, two doctors and another person were arrested in Livonia, Michigan on charges of conducting illegal FGM procedures on young Somali girls transported from Minnesota.”

This outbreak marks a 20-year high of measles cases in the state. Of course, Minnesota is led by Democrats Attorney General Loris Swanson and Gov. Mark Dayton who sued President Trump over his travel ban which could have prevented this whole thing in the first place.
