Alan Gottlieb, the founder of the Second Amendment Foundation and the Chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, is calling on the NRA to “strike a deal on an enhanced background check measure that would cover private sales made over the Internet and at gun shows.”
With polls showing that a vast majority of Americans support enhanced background checks, Gottlieb told guns.com that “the gun rights lobby has to wake up and realize we need to lead, not follow.” Gottlieb’s desire to cast a deal for UBC (universal background checks) is because he believes “fighting UBCs is a losing battle over the long run.”
Gottlieb is urging the NRA to write their own UBC bill so they can ensure that law-abiding citizens 2nd Amendment rights are not attacked.
“If we write a background check bill we could write it in a way that protects our rights. If we let the other side do it it’s not going to protect our rights and it’ll be a disaster because Bloomberg wants to write it in a way that’s more than a disaster.”
