As predictable as the characters he plays, actor George Clooney endorsed Hillary Clinton for president and condemned Donald Trump as a fascist xenophobe.
"I am a Hillary supporter. I am doing a fundraiser for her,” Clooney told The Guardian.
Clooney also expressed affection for Bernie Sanders, but felt him too single-minded, though he appreciated what he stands for and the issues raised by his campaign: “He is forcing the conversation to things that never get talked about in U.S. politics: disparity between the rich and the poor, which is getting worse and worse every day," Clooney said.
On Donald Trump, Clooney said exactly what you'd expect an overly-paid actor to say: repeated talking points written by someone else: "He’s just an opportunist. Now he’s a fascist; a xenophobic fascist," said Clooney.
"So you hear a massively stupid idea, like we’re going to ban Muslims from the country," he continued. "Now, we’re not ever going to do that. It says in the Statue of Liberty, bring us your huddled masses. It’s not what’s going to happen."
The Freedom Center is a 501c3 non-profit organization. Therefore we do not endorse political candidates either in primary or general elections. However, as defenders of America’s social contract, we insist that the rules laid down by both parties at the outset of campaigns be respected, and that the results be decided by free elections. We will oppose any attempt to rig the system and deny voters of either party their constitutional right to elect candidates of their choice.
