Portland Mayor Wants Feds to Stop ‘Alt-Right’ Rallies After Train Murders

Yes, the First Amendment has to go.

Portland, Oregon, Mayor Ted Wheeler wants the federal government to step in and stop two upcoming “alt-right” rallies after a raving lunatic stabbed three men and killed two of them for trying to stop him from accosting two young female Muslims on a commuter train.

Since the murders on Friday, the suspect, Jeremy Christian, 35, has been portrayed by the media as a white nationalist, Trump-supporting, alt-righter. However, it has been uncovered that Christian voted for Bernie Sanders and vowed to kill both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump on Facebook. He was seen at Trump rallies, but video has surfaced of actual Trump supporters kicking him out because of his insane rants. The bottom line is, Christian, as seen in the video above, is an unstable man and his politics don’t matter. Full stop.

Yet, Mayor Wheeler willingly accepts the media's narrative and wants to shut down free speech for people who have nothing to do with the attack. According to CNN, Wheeler called on the federal government to revoke a permit for an upcoming rally this weekend, and deny a permit for another slated a week later since both events will occur at a park on federal land.

"Our city is in mourning, our community's anger is real, and the timing and subject of these events can only exacerbate an already difficult situation," the mayor said on Facebook. He also urged organizers to cancel the events and told supporters not to show up.

"My main concern is that they are coming to peddle a message of hatred and of bigotry," Wheeler added. "They have a First Amendment right to speak, but my pushback on that is that hate speech is not protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution."

Sunday is the “Trump Free Speech Rally Portland,” organized by Joey Gibson who says the event is “about fighting corruption and big government with the strength and power of love."

Gibson is familiar with Christian, who showed up to one of his free speech events back in April with a baseball bat and yelling at everybody. Gibson told CNN:

"Jeremy Christian has nothing to do with us. He hated us, he threatened me. We did everything we could to kick him out. We didn't want him with us.“

Gibson, who describes himself not as a right-winger but as a libertarian, said he will not cancel the rally.

"If I cancel this rally and we don't have a permit, you're talking about hundreds of people just showing up in the park with no leadership, no voice of reason,” he wrote on Facebook.

On June 10 in Portland, a #MarchAgainstSharia protest is planned.

The American Civil Liberties Union addressed the mayor’s request on Twitter, reminding him, “The government cannot revoke or deny a permit based on the viewpoint of the demonstrators. Period.”

"We are all free to reject and protest ideas we don't agree with. That is a core, fundamental freedom of the United States,” the organization added.

Wow, when you’re further left than the ACLU, you must be the mayor of Portland.
