House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has demanded action for Obama's Dreamers before Congress recesses this year, but it looks like it might take an act of God to push it through — which she believes her party might just get.
A reporter on Thursday asked Pelosi if she was going to “back off” her promise to not leave in December without a fix to the Deferred Action Against Childhood Arrivals (DACA) tacked onto the budget bill. The minority leader assured, “We’re not backing off anything.” She said that included “protecting our border,” though it doesn’t sound like Pelosi is a fan of the wall.
“We are not going to turn this country into a reign of terror of domestic enforcement, and have the DACA, the DREAMers, pay that price,” Pelosi said.
Then, Pelosi confidently told the press that she has no doubt her party’s plans will succeed because God Himself is on their side:
“God is with us on this. Our country is great. We know that greatness springs from the vitality that newcomers bring to our country.”
Not even attempting to avoid a lightning bolt, Pelosi then took a jab at President Trump. She mentioned that some Republicans approached her at a holiday party hosted by the president to say a majority in their districts support DACA. But she made sure to point out that, Trump called it “a holiday event, by the way. It wasn’t a Christmas party, it was a holiday event.”
Pelosi, and God, just wanted you to know that.
