Obama’s Dreamers Demand Pardons So Trump Won’t Deport Them

“We know Trump is lying about immigrants because his lips are moving.."

On Wednesday, a rally is planned in New York by illegal immigrants and activists to beg President Obama to pardon 750,000 Dreamers, which they believe is their last hope before President-elect Donald Trump deports them, reports The Washington Times.

Advocates and state lawmakers said, “Millions of law-abiding undocumented immigrants are fearful of what will happen when the new Administration takes control in January. However, President Obama has the power of pardons that he can use to protect all DACA enrollees.”

Trump vowed to cancel Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program which protects younger illegal aliens from deportation for two years and allows them work permits, driver’s licenses, and even tax benefits. The president hinted that Trump should “think long and hard” before making that decision.

Obama said, “I mean, these are kids who were brought here by their parents. They did nothing wrong. They have gone to school. They have pledged allegiance to the flag. Some of them joined the military. They’ve enrolled in school. By definition, if they are part of this program, they are solid, wonderful young people of good character.”

But as The Times notes, the Dreamers want assurance of a pardon and point to historical instances of mass pardons for Confederate soldiers after the Civil War and draft dodgers during the Vietnam War as relevant examples.

However, a presidential pardon could not grant legal status, according to immigration experts, but it would erase any illegal ways the immigrants came into the country.

Advocates fear that Trump is lying when he says he’s going after the three million criminal aliens first and addressing the southern border before coming after them.

“We know Trump is lying about immigrants because his lips are moving,” one said.

“As of September,” The Times states, “more than 740,000 illegal immigrants had been approved for Mr. Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.”
