Obama Former Communications Director Closes PR Firm Following Sexual Assault Allegations

Not covered in today’s NY Times. Just imagine if this were a GOP PR firm.

In the latest Public Relations news, liberal PR agency FitzGibbon Media is shutting down due to multiple allegations of sexual assault and sexual harassment against the owner of the company, Trevor FitzGibbon.

Fitzgibbon, who served as communications director for Obama’s 2008 campaign represents "progressive" clients include NARAL, MoveOn.org, the Center for American Progress and the AFL-CIO.  He continues to maintain close ties to the Obama Administration, and his client list also includes the environmental activist group founded by Obama’s  former “green” jobs czar Van Jones as well as Jones’ group called Rebuild the Dream. The company also handled media relations for the recent launch of Everytown for Gun Safety’s Creative Council, led by Julianne Moore and released a video which featured President Obama.

Before Fitzgibbons started his own agency, he previously worked for another liberal public relations organization, Fenton Communications, which has close ties to numerous George Soros' funded charities.

MoveOn.org said in a statement they were "shocked and dismayed" by the allegations of sexual assault, including a statement from MoveOn.org Civic Action Executive Director Anna Galland who said, "These allegations must be taken seriously. There is no room for sexual assault or harassment in our movement, in any workplace, or anywhere."

A number of endorsements remain on the pr companies website: “Fitzgibbon Media is a critical thought partner and strategic counsel at every stage: from naming and understanding the challenges we faced, to devising media and campaign strategy, to executing effective crisis communications, the FitzGibbon team was thoughtful, responsive, and proactive in their work. Fitzgibbon Media does this by not only approaching the work as a media or messaging challenge but by fully integrating work with our overall mission, campaigning, and human rights goals.”  Tarah Demant, Senior Director of the Identity and Discrimination Unit, Amnesty International USA

“For six years, while at Fenton Communications, Trevor was our lead media relations partner. Reporters know and love him. He’s tireless, brilliant, and he made getting MoveOn on everything from The Colbert Report to Meet the Press look effortless. Trevor’s work has been one of the keys to MoveOn’s success – we couldn’t recommend him more highly." Eli Pariser, then-President, MoveOn.org
