Maher: Republicans Don't Like Scientist Neil DeGrasse Tyson Because He's Black

"A black person taking a white person's job by being better at it, how dare he!"

On Friday's Real Time on HBO, host Bill Maher had guest scientist Neil DeGrasse Tyson on and said Republicans don't like him because he is black and smarter than they are.

Holding up a current copy of National Review which features Tyson with the headline, "Smarter Than Thou," Maher makes the case for his assertion. Maher likens it to President Obama:

A black person taking a white person's job by being better at it, how dare he!

Tyson felt his being the topic for the conservative mag was more about reaching out for votes from the "nerd set" or the "geek set" who, in Tyson's mind, "tend to vote Democrat."

Tyson furthered his argument by saying Comic Con is happening in San Diego, and if a show of hands is asked by attendees on whether they vote Republican or Democrat, Tyson said it would be "overwhelmingly liberal Democrat."

"Well, that's not necessarily a positive thing," Maher quipped.
