On Wednesday, Secretary of State John Kerry responded to the news that a former Guantanamo Bay detainee had returned to terrorism by saying, “He’s not supposed to be doing that.”
According to Mediaite, Kerry was appearing before the Senate Appropriations Committee to discuss State Department budget requests when Republican Mark Kirk asked about Ibrahim al-Qosi, who was transferred from Gitmo to Sudan in 2012 to serve out a fourteen-year prison sentence. In December 2015, he resurfaced as the public face of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.
Really? There are consequences for rejoining the war on terror after being released from U.S. custody? What are those consequences, Mr. Kerry, re-imprisonment in Gitmo? How does that happen - do you send al-Qosi in the Arabian peninsula an official request to hand himself over to American authorities?
Kerry shifted to blaming America for unfairly imprisoning al-Qosi in the first place
“The fact is that we’ve got people who’ve been held without charges for 13 years, 14 years in some cases. That’s not American, that’s not how we operate.”
Right, that's not who we are. We're the country that just releases terrorists back into the wild, preferably in exchange for a deserter, so they can continue killing us.
