In an interview on public radio, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban accused billionaire investor George Soros of being the most prominent member of "activists" undermining European nations by supporting refugees heading to the continent from the Middle East and beyond, reports Bloomberg Business:
"His name is perhaps the strongest example of those who support anything that weakens nation states, they support everything that changes the traditional European lifestyle. These activists who support immigrants inadvertently become part of this international human-smuggling network."
Human rights groups have criticized Orban for building a razor-wire fence on the border to stem the flood of Arabs - ostensibly refugees fleeing Syrian civil war - pouring into Europe. The Hungarian-born philanthropist Soros is the most prominent funder of leftist organizations and causes in the world. Via his foundations, he gives grants to organizations that provide legal assistance to asylum seekers.
“His plan treats the protection of national borders as the objective and the refugees as an obstacle. Our plan treats the protection of refugees as the objective and national border as the obstacle.”
