The Huffington Post couldn't be more upset that Donald Trump won the Republican primary in New Hampshire Tuesday night, offering this headline today: "A Racist, Sexist Demagogue Just Won the New Hampshire Primary."
HuffPo doesn't think too highly of the Republicans voting for Trump, either, saying, "What the GOP got… is a xenophobic demagogue who's insulted pretty much everyone and even earned the endorsement of white supremacists."
The liberal outlet was able to get one aspect of Trump's appeal correct: "The message from New Hampshire was clear: Voters fed up with Democrats and Republicans alike desire a politically incorrect outsider, one not beholden to special interests or rich donors, one who can actually break the perpetual gridlock in Washington."
But perhaps the biggest blunder in reporting on Trump's success in New Hampshire is that the Post broke its solemn promise to only cover the former reality TV star in its Entertainment section alongside the Kardashians.
"Trump's campaign is a sideshow," HuffPo's editors said last year. "You're fired from our political reporting," they added. A month later, the promise was re-articulated.
Yet, Trump's staying power in this election, and seemingly unstoppable momentum, has put him back in the Politics section, making HuffPo editors liars. So, they came up with another idea: Since they can't ignore the real estate mogul turned presidential candidate any longer, they will bash him every chance they get.
Now, for each story anywhere on the site about Donald Trump, the editors tag the story with the following note:
Donald Trump is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist, birther and bully who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims -- 1.6 billion members of an entire religion -- from entering the U.S.
We can hear them kicking and screaming from here.
