Hillary Clinton continues making appearances and it’s been a great reminder why she lost. In an interview Sunday with CBS’s Jane Pauley, 2016’s biggest loser doubled down on her “basket of deplorables” comments, appearing to have zero regrets.
That wasn’t the case a year ago when she first uttered the insult. Clinton released a statement the day after saying she was “grossly generalistic” by saying “half” of Trump supporters are deplorable.
“That was wrong,” she had said.
Cut to a year later — and a new post-loss book, What Happened, in which she is airing all of her grievances — and it would appear that if she had to do it all over again, she would.
Pauley asked Clinton why that word had been circulating in her mind:
“Well, I thought Trump was behaving in a deplorable manner. I thought a lot of his appeals to voters were deplorable. I thought his behavior – as we saw in the Access Hollywood tape — was deplorable and there were a large number of people who didn’t care. It did not matter to them.”
Clinton attempted to change the subject by calling Trump “a very effective reality TV star,” but Pauley pressed, reminding Clinton that she energized voters using that language. She did not agree.
“No, but they were already energized,” Clinton said.
“But you offended some people who didn’t personally feel deplorable at all,” Pauley countered.
“Well, I don’t buy that,” Clinton retorted.
The only thing Clinton expressed sorrow for was giving them “a political gift” that led to her defeat.
Hey, Hill, you know what happened? You happened.
