David Brock’s pro-Hillary Clinton attack organization “Correct The Record” released their 2015 year-end financial documents today to the FEC. Their donors include a smattering of media moguls, humongous real estate developers, and American Bridge 21st Century, which Brock founded and which FactCheck.org describes as “a liberal super PAC that conducts opposition research to aid Democratic candidates and organizations.” Brock, also the founder of Media Matters for America, has long been a Hillary shill and attack-dog [read the Horowitz Freedom Center's profile of conservative journalist-turned-liberal Brock at our Discover the Networks resource site here, and our profile of American Bridge 21st Century here].
Brock’s donors include Gary Barnett of Extell Development who gave $100,000 in November 2015. Barnett is currently developing One 57, a 75-story uber-luxury residential building dubbed by the NYC tabloids as the “Billionaire Building.” He recently sold the penthouse in the building for more than $100 million, the most ever paid for a NYC apartment.
Barnett attracted controversy in 2013 when he “donated $100,000 to Gov. Cuomo days before he signed a bill that would be a windfall for the company.” According to the NY Daily News, Barnett “became increasingly generous when it stood to make millions,” as “Cuomo was governor and lawmakers were weighing a housing bill that would directly benefit Extell with tax breaks that would save the company $35 million over a decade on a Manhattan luxury tower.”
Other major donors to Brock include: Anthony Weiner’s former boss, Michael Kempner of MWW PR Group (a major Hillary backer); gay activist Tim Gill; James Attwood, head of the Global Telecommunications and Media for The Carlyle Group, one of the largest private equity firms in America; and “American Bridge 21st Century.”
Bernie Sanders recently clarified that Brock is not a mere "Clinton ally": "He is head of their Super PAC, that receives millions of dollars from wealthy interests." More recently, Sanders lashed out at Brock again - "the man who tried to destroy Anita Hill" - mocking Brock's “long history of honest and integrity.”
