Dan Rather Never Seen America ‘This Bad’ Until Trump: ‘We’re Better Than This’

That’s 50 years of award-winning journalism for you.

In a video special for leftist outlet Salon, Emmy-winning journalist Dan Rather combed through his 50-year career in which he has covered every president since Dwight Eisenhower and concluded that Donald Trump is the worst ever to live in the White House.

"We're better than this,” Rather said in the Salon Talks video. “What we always hope for in a leader, among other things, that there’d be a certain nobility to the president of the United States; something noble about the presidency.”

Rather credits George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Teddy Roosevelt with having the kind of nobility he’s looking for in a leader (not a servant of the people, mind you). With Trump, Rather added, “We have zero of that.”

Then, Rather had the audacity to preach holding on to principles in these uncertain times. Like those same journalistic principles he employed spreading fake news during his career? Perhaps he forgot he used fake documents to slander George W. Bush’s Air National Guard service record. But after 50 years, who can remember a little thing like that?

You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone on the Left who doesn’t mention the Ku Klux Klan when talking about Trump, and Rather didn’t disappoint. He actually mentioned “Trump supporters” just after. But he’s trying to make a larger point:

“While we’re in an extremely difficult period now, a perilous time for the country, we need to remind ourselves that we’ve come through a lot worse before.”

Wait a second, didn’t he say it’s never been this bad? There he goes, struggling with the facts again.
