Atheist National Convention to Have 'Gender Neutral' Restrooms For Transgenders

"Please let everyone pee in peace."

The 2014 American Atheists National Convention, set to kick-off in Salt Lake City on April 17 and conclude on Easter Sunday, has proudly advertised they will be servicing the transgender community with "gender neutral" bathrooms.

Their website states:

One way of acknowledging transgender people's needs and experiences is to designate a number of restrooms gender neutral, which we will do with educational signs. In bathrooms, many transgender people face harassment that can lead to discomfort or even arrest and violence. Such conduct is unacceptable to American Atheists and we aim to create a safe and welcoming environment for all atheists, including our brothers and sisters in the trans* community.

Please listen to trans* people’s needs and stories when they are volunteered; but please respect people’s privacy and boundaries and do not ask questions that you wouldn’t ask of anyone else. Do not make assumptions about other people’s gender identity or expression. Do respect and call people what they ask you to call them.

If you choose to use these restrooms, please let everyone pee in peace. Each of us can determine for ourselves in which bathroom we belong.

American Atheists were responsible for the anti-prayer superbowl billboard that featured a crazed, football fanatic priest accompanied by the snarky message, "A 'HAIL MARY' ONLY WORKS IN FOOTBALL. ENJOY THE GAME!"
